Read it and go write

I realised after yesterday’s post that I said Howl changed my life, but after waxing lyrical on Ginberg’s brilliance I really failed to explain that comment.

I guess really what I’m getting as is inspiration. I admit, I’m not usually inspired by others’ work, I’m hugely critical, and if I like it then I’m jealous and that’s not inspiring at all.

But there’s something about Ginsberg that makes me believe. There’s something ab0ut the power in his words, he’s discovered some mindaltering passion, some pattern which has changed the beat. Some freedom. People like that make me think that there’s hope for the rest of us.

The difference with Howl was – I read it and went to write.

Read it.

On a completely different note, from (Un)solved Mysteries.
